Skipping My Third Lesson in Flutter: Am I Ready Yet?
Learning something new, especially coding, can be overwhelming for someone with zero experience—trust me, I know! I recently attempted to dive into the 3rd lesson, Flutter Essentials, a tutorial focused on the core aspects of Flutter, but I decided to skip it. Why? Because I honestly don’t think I’m ready yet to fully absorb what’s being taught.
What Was Covered in the Lesson?
The lesson covers a wide range of topics, which sound impressive but feel a bit daunting for a total beginner like me. Here’s an overview of what’s included:
Introduction to Flutter
- How Flutter powers FlutterFlow projects.
- Why it’s a versatile choice for cross-platform app development.
Dart Fundamentals
- Basics of Dart, the programming language behind Flutter.
Custom Code Integration
- Using Flutter to add custom features and elevate app functionality.
The video content also breaks down Flutter’s core concepts, catering to different types of developers: web, native, or backend specialists.
My Honest Opinion
While the lesson seems packed with knowledge, I personally feel that it’s still not suitable for someone who’s an absolute beginner in coding—like me. The pacing and depth of the topics assume a certain level of familiarity with coding concepts, which can be intimidating if you’re starting from scratch.
Maybe it’s just me, but I need more foundational knowledge before tackling something as intricate as Flutter. I feel like I’m trying to run before I can even crawl in the coding world! For now, I’ll stick to building a stronger base with simpler concepts before returning to this lesson.
Looking Ahead to the Fourth Lesson
Skipping the third lesson feels like a setback, but I’m not giving up just yet. I’ll take it step by step and see how things go in the fourth lesson. Hopefully, the next module will either build on concepts I’m more comfortable with or help me approach the material in a more digestible way. Sometimes, learning isn’t linear—it’s about finding your own rhythm.
Advice for Fellow Beginners
If you’re completely new to coding and considering learning Flutter:
- Start with the Basics: Before diving into Flutter, learn programming fundamentals (perhaps with Python or JavaScript).
- Take Your Time: Don’t rush through lessons. It’s okay to revisit or skip topics until you’re ready.
- Be Honest About Your Progress: It’s better to pause and reflect than to push forward without understanding.
It feels a bit disappointing to skip a lesson, but I know this is part of the learning process. Hopefully, with time and practice, I’ll revisit this lesson and feel more confident about tackling these concepts.
